Carlie Geer RD

1. Tell us about yourself, your past and present jobs, how long you have been an RD and what you find to be the most interesting part of your job.
Have been a clinical RD at MCHV/FAHC all of my RD career (after doing a 6 months qualifying experience at MCHV).  I just happened to  "fall into" pediatrics when another RD left just as I was hired, and have never looked back.  In addition, I have taught Wellness programs at IBM as an MCHV RD early on, and also did some outpatient counseling for a while in addition to my inpatient pediatric work.  Now my work is all inpatient, with a focus on Neonatal nutrition and Cystic Fibrosis,  in addition to general pediatrics.  I love the team feeling of my work.  After 23 years, one develops a strong rapport with the MDs making the job easier to do, and very satisfying.

2. How did you get into this field?
I really planned on going into Sports Nutrition, but that never happened outside of doing some "moonlighting" talks for local sports groups.

3. Aside from your professional career, what else would you like VDA members to know about you?
I definitely practice what I preach in terms of healthy eating and living an active lifestyle.

Of note: Carlie is an athlete, an Olympian in fact. Here is the Link to her Olympic statistics.

Yummy facts...

Every county in Vermont produces maple syrup. It is estimated that we have around 2,000 maple producers in the state.
