2009 VDA Awards

Outstanding Dietitian of the Year

Donna Hunt, RD CDE, a diabetes educator and manages the Endocrinology Clinic at RRMC.

Emerging Dietetic Leader

Aaron Jones, RD, CD, a clinical dietitian at RRMC. He has made his mark there in the past 5 years by working with the critical care team to improve the nutritional status of the acute care patients on enteral and parenteral nutrition. 

Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year

Joe Frost, MPh, RD. He works for the FDA in Highgate and has a published study on Alaskan natives and diabetes in the JADA. He is also an officer in the armed forces.

Outstanding Dietetics Student

Sarah Pothier earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Vermont in 3 ½ years and is currently completing the MS-RD program there. 

Betsy Hiser Scholarship

The 2009 Betsy Hiser Scholarship was awarded to Laura Biron, MBA, RD, CD. She  will use the funds to attend a five-day professional training in ‘Mindfulness Based Eating Awareness’ at the University of California, San Diego, Department of Medicine. Laura works in private practice and plans to use the skills learned in this training to help her clients change their relationship with food and eating, including overeating, binge eating and weight management.
