President's Message

Dear VDA Members,
I look forward to working with you throughout the upcoming year and thank you for your vote of confidence in having me represent you as President of the Vermont Dietetic Association.

This is going to be an interesting and eventful year for our profession and our organization.  Health Care Reform is actively being crafted in Washington and ADA is working to assure that the RD and the value of our professional services is incorporated into final Health Care Reform legislation.  Please join me and all registered dietitians around the country by engaging in this important discussion.  Throughout the summer you will be contacted several times and will be asked to write or email our Vermont Senators and Congressmen regarding Health Care Reform. We want to assure that the services of the RD are incorporated into the new healthcare legislation and the only way to do so is by being actively engaged in the discussion.

At our annual meeting this spring we began a discussion regarding VDA members taking a more visible role in improving the health of our own local communities. Many of you participated in the VDA service initiative survey and group of us met in early June to review the survey results and begin planning.  The initiative has been named; Vermont Dietitians for Healthy People, Healthy Communities and the main focus will be combating hunger in Vermont. In the near future you should expect to hear more about ways for you to participate.  If you would like to get involved right now, please contact me.  Information about this initiative will be on the website shortly.

I think this will be an exciting time for our organization and I hope to work with each you as we move towards improving the nutrition and health of Vermonters while also working on shaping our national health care policy.
