Abdominal pain is highly prevalent and highly non-specific, making it hard to assess and treat, especially when a definitive/accurate medical diagnosis is lacking. To the extent that unmanaged, chronic abdominal pain can lead to ARFID-like behaviors, prolonged dietary restriction and malnutrition, RDs must be especially skilled to assess and manage patients with chronic abdominal pain. A deep understanding of GI anatomy and physiology is a crucial skill for GI dietitians to cultivate in honing their assessment skills so that they may select relevant and appropriate dietary interventions to help patients manage symptoms without excessive dietary restriction.
In this webinar, we will learn how both the location and the character of a patient's abdominal pain can offer clues as to its etiology, as well as review various modular dietary and behavioral changes RDs can offer for the management of this symptom. We will also cover alarm symptoms to recognize when a medical referral is warranted.
All registrants will receive a link to the recording to view the webinar on-demand. The live webinar may reach capacity.
